Now my Mum is getting on and is beginning to loose her memory. She is not eating right and frankly sometimes forgets to eat correctly or at all. My sister and I recently persuaded her to have Meals on Wheels three times a week. Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays. A hot main course and a hot desert.
We were very impressed with the way M-on-W was organised. After a few weeks for Mum to get used to the meals being delivered she can choose from a menu and pay by a monthly account !
The first meal was due on Thursday just gone! So when I rang her Thursday lunchtime I was a bit dismayed when she said they had been Wednesday! Oh Dear it's the memory was my first thought. During the Thursday conversation the M-on-W lady actually arrived. My Mum was really excited !!
It turns out that they did call on Wednesday. . . with a free meal , just to say Hello !!! And when I spoke to her later on she said it was "Smashing" and " Really Hot" and "very nice and tasty". My sister and I were like kids at Christmas time when we compared notes later. I am SO PLEASED that she likes it and is getting a hot well ballanced meal.
A tiny step foward in the battle against dementia.
